I think you need to extend your Hawaiian trip longer and write more, Lorraine. Why haven't you shared this side of you before? This is awesomesauce right here. I'm all smiles reading this and can't wait for your next one. Hard stop. - Seth ✦
Thank you! I’m here for two weeks, which is my comfortable limit for being away from home. Right now I’m caring for my granddaughter, who has pneumonia (scary!) but as she recovers I will have a bit more time. When you see me showing up here, she’s either napping or one of her parents are home. I cherish every minute because I don’t get to see her often enough.
Lorraine - I'm thrilled that you're there for two weeks, and I just hope you can enjoy a little bit of sunshine and fun. I'm wishing your granddaughter a very speedy recovery, and hopefully she'll quickly knock it to the curb. Without gushing too much, you're both an amazing grandmother and mom there. Enjoy every moment you get. Time is indeed fleeting.
Finally, you've got talent, Lorraine. I'm not going to say that about every poet I encounter, and I'm just so psyched you're letting loose on the page there. Really - take the praise in. Let the words flow onto the page when you have the time; I'd love for everyone to see that side of you. :) - Seth ✦
Lorraine, I found you through Melinda Lloyd and Seth Diamond! I was touched to read about the little girl who grew up through all those different phases of life to be a woman who was held. Beautiful writing. I hope you write more like this.🩷
You’ve gone through so many stages and experiences. After the long journey, you realized that that “home” has always been within you. I love that. I hope I understood it right. :) The meaning is truly beautiful. It reminds me of one of my favorite poems in Mandarin. It’s also so lovely to see you follow what inspired you.
There is no right way to interpret this. I'm sharing tomorrow how I came to write it, but different themes were flowing. My "girls" are now in their 30s! Time flies. Do you have children?
I am! My younger one who used to love cuddling doesn't want me to kiss him all the time anymore. 😭 That's probably why I have more time to do stuff for myself like writing. Haha.
All the history wraps you in its presence. The sense that you are never alone is so beautifully expressed. Now you have to keep writing poems Lorraine.
Lorraine, This carries a beautiful sense of presence. There’s a steadiness in your language that allows the emotion to unfold without force. It feels honest, and that honesty stays with the reader.
I’m grateful you allowed yourself to be moved and to shape something from that.
That willingness is everything. This is just lovely, Monica
I am thrilled and cannot wait to see you write more like this. You are an incredible writer and kindred spirit. I love that we can write from our framework minds to poetry. Truly my thought is that our framework building minds empower the creative process.
You noted what surprised me. It was only after I wrote the poem that I realized I was writing from where my "framework mind" met my "creative brain." I love the possibilities that presents!

How old are your girls by the way?

Whaaat!
My boys just turned 14 and 11.
Enjoy every minute you can.

There’s so much ebb and flow with children, right? But it’s hard to see certain seasons end.
Oh, this is beyond wonderful. Thank you for sharing with us
I am so touched by your comment. Thank you.
Lovely.
Thank you, Ellen.
This was beautiful. I loved your movement through the versions of you and the reflection of how all of it was never done alone.
Thank you so much. I so appreciate the comment.

Exactly, which is why across genres my writing is framework and systems based. You opened the door. Yay!
Lovely. Poignant.
Thank you. You know your opinion is everything.
This is beautiful, Lorraine. I was right there in the poem. One to reread.
